A decade working in care

Viktoryia has been part of the CompleteCare Amegreen team for the last ten years. She joined as a personal care assistant and was attracted by a fresh challenge in a people-focused sector. Since then she has progressed to gain experience within CompleteCare Amegreen mobile response team, and now has the qualifications and skills to play a key role within the mobilisation team that helps new clients of varying conditions and needs get up-and-running at home quickly.

“To become a carer, if you really want to make a difference you must be prepared for it to become a lifestyle rather than a job. No two days are the same but I always feel that whatever I have done for my clients has made a big difference.”

Driven by professional development

Viktoryia has always been passionate about working in care and has taken every opportunity to gain new skills and qualifications throughout her journey; safe in the knowledge that she is doing everything she can to provide the highest quality care for her clients. While working at CompleteCare Amegreen Viktoryia gained an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, which enabled her to take on greater responsibility and seniority.

Developing great working relationships

Viktoryia cites one of the best aspects of her job as the great relationships she has nurtured with the people she looks after. Whether it’s practical household tasks such as cooking, cleaning and washing up; personal care such as bathing, dressing and administering medication or even simply offering emotional support or having a good chat, Viktoryia recognises the need for every client to be treated with dignity and respect.

“As personal carers we can help to ensure that health and care treats the whole person’s body, mind and spirit. It’s a tremendous responsibility and an opportunity for everyone working in this area to make the most of it.”

Always room for improvement

A career in care requires plenty of time and patience, insists Viktoryia. She learnt quickly to become aware of people’s needs by simply remembering how they react to certain situations and discovering ways of making them relaxed and comfortable – patience is definitely a virtue when working with clients at a critical point in their life journey!

“For many clients, having a carer come into their home for the first time is a daunting experience. But over time, we gain their trust and friendship. I am so proud of the positive impact I can have on the lives of so many people.”
